SuperCollider 3.14 release party

We want to celebrate the release of the new SuperCollider version 3.14 with the community with a 24 hour streaming event! There are 72 open 20 minute slots which can be claimed by anyone who wants to contribute a performance. The performance should be related to SuperCollider in some way, although it is not limited to musical performances but can also be talks or other kind of performances.

The event will be happening on 2025-07-26 from UTC 00:00 to UTC 23:59. For your timezone ... this relates to ...

The performances need to be transmitted as video streams which can be created via e.g. OBS - you can take a look at the setup guide. The performances are broadcasted via live.eulerroom.com, which has been kindly provided by TOPLAP - consider donating to them via OpenCollective.

Before starting the big work of porting my experimental #LiveCoding #uzulang #godwit 's #parser from #Alex and #Happy to #Parsec, I finally managed to get a snapshot working in #Termux on my phone by making a tarball including the generated #Haskell files on a machine where Alex and Happy were available and transferring it over network.

This isn't ideal as I can't edit the parser on my phone (no Alex/Happy there; at least not recent enough versions, old ones got via cjacker's Hugs 2019 improvement), so I still want to switch to Parsec which is not so horribly #GHC -only (Parsec has a version that works with #MicroHs and probably #Hugs #HaskellHugs too).

I put the snapshot at
mathr.co.uk/web/godwit.html#Do and meanwhile updated the bootstrap script as patching MicroHs isn't necessary any more.

This bunch of consonants is an obvious encryption of “from scratch or not” – format and name of an unofficial computer music concert series.

What does from scratch mean?

A couple of examples from wiktionary:

- When the writer finished writing his book, it was stolen and now he has to rewrite it from scratch.

- She said she wanted to build a new house from scratch.

- There were so many errors in the program that the programmer decided to rewrite it from scratch.

- He was out of pancake mix so he had to make the batter from scratch.

So in similar situations, computer musician would start composing and improvising their music from a blank sheet.

Nothing prewritten – really? Well, like the mandelbrots used to quote from Carl Sagen:

If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.

Now for the 4th edition:

Jia Liu

Michele Samarotto

This concert is a special meetup of toplap Karlsruhe (sometimes Totally Over Produced Lonely Acoustic People), where you are invited to listen to live computer music, so no tickets are required. Welcome, curious ears 👂
