Quince buds ready to pop.

My friend's magnolia is on the verge.

Here's another shot of that lovely liverwort from yesterday (previous post). I took this with my 200-500mm wildlife lens. Gonna try to get back to #ClearCreekTrail with the macro lens so I can get closer/better detail.

Popping in from hiatus to post this beauty. This is liverwort (Anemone hepatica) & it's one of my absolute favorites. I look for it in early #spring on #ClearCreekTrail. Usually find 1-2 plants but this yr found a whole patch.

In from hiatus just to post this pic of a native plant called prairie smoke (Geum triflorum) that just started producing blooms in my garden. B4 opening the flower turns upright. When one opens I'll post a pic.

Closeup photograph if a prairie smoke (Geum triflorum) flower bud amid fern-like green foliage. Prairie smoke produces pink-maroon, bell-shaped buds that hang down from pink-maroon stems. At this stage, the pink-maroon sepals completely enclose the flower's interior.

One of the best aspects of #photography is that you spend a lot of time noticing. Prior to photography, I never paid attention to overwintered plants like these seed pods (sweetgum?) from Friday. You miss a lot when you don't notice. Like the beauty of overwintered plants.

The tulips and tabbies are coming along nicely

"I'll have one with just a smidge of purple here and there."

This particular crocus has mostly white petals with pale purple smudges. The petals are curved, conical in shape similar to a tulip but with a soft, pointed end and have yellow-orange stamens and a yellow-orange pistil. Crocuses have grass-like foliage with thin white stripes down the center of each blade.

Elm bark landscape.

Black and white photo of elm tree bark. The photo has been flipped on its side so that the grain of the bark runs horizontally rather than the actual vertical. Elm bark is heavily textured with large, highlighted, angular protuberances and deep, shadowed crevasses that create a dense three dimensional structure. In the horizontal position it gives the impression of wind-driven waves or a landscape filled with either squat hills or exposed sedimentary rocks with sharp edges.

Chicago drawbridge.

This was taken on the Chicago Architecture Center's architectural boat tour of downtown Chicago. Well worth it if you visit Chicago and have the time.
