I had to read it again a couple of times to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating or making things up as I read along. But no. That’s what I read in this article. </p><p>WTF is a ‘Social Housing Provider’ ? It sounds like a monstrous chimera from the neoliberal hellpark we call our political economic menagerie. “Social’ folks… that word says it all. I'm fortunate enough to reside in #SocialHousing so at least my rent is affordable compared to income, but the balance of my income no longer covers food and OTC meds/CPAP materials. 😐

Worse yet, we continually experience long extreme heat events in summers now and our lease agreements explicitly *disallow* in-window AC, so cooling options are limited.

We didn't really need AC hereabouts most of my life, but now it is a matter of life and death for many. 😢

A secure, affordable home is a human right but many countries and local authorities are failing on this.

I'm very happy to be attending the International Social Housing Festival 2025 today in Dublin to hear about international best practices and how we build public housing better in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and nationally.

Our council, unlike many laggards, are on track to meet our social & affordable housing targets. But we can always do better & learn more.
