#TombTuesday with the Necropolis of Taormina, a Columbarium on the road up into the town
People appear to call it interchangeably the 'Byzantine' or 'Arab Necropolis' with estimates of use between c8-11

In the village of Nughedu Santa Vittoria, #Sardinia are some Domus de Janas - survivors of a larger necropolis. This tomb preserves peculiar architectural and decorative elements, like a bull's head relief on a pillar (or some say upside-down anthropomorphic figure). #TombTuesday More...

How's this for an eerie location: Kalby Langdysse (Long Barrow) in #Denmark Four orthostats (upright stones) and one capstone which has been overturned. Towards the north-east is another capstone and two smaller stones, perhaps the remains of another chamber. #TombTuesday More...

For #TombTuesday and #EpigraphyTuesday, this Late Roman grave stele in the #Istanbul #Archaeology Museum
The inscription reads, "Auxanos (made)(this grave) in memory of his father Tryphon and mother Auxanousa, when she was still living. Christians."
Here is an interesting book for taphophiles!
First I bought this book for its title, but the opening sentences completely knocked me out:
"I grew up in graveyards. The dead were my babysitters, my quiet companions. Not silent, though."
It explores various British cemeteries and introduces the history, the people buried there, unique tombstones, etc. I feel the author’s warmth and love for cemeteries throughout the book.
#TombTuesday & Carreg Sampson looking stunning with its views along the Pembrokeshire coast
Maybe it’s the false crest, looking like a traditional UFO?, or the great bike ride by, but something keeps drawing back to Clury Cairn #TombTuesday … a few more pics on @megalithic here https://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=7427
A mound at Yeni Turcan, Azerbaijan, with two statues. Very unusual burial excavated as a quarry rescue dig. The statues appear to be male & female, broken. It is plausible they were ceremonially 'killed' when an old, perhaps polytheistic religion gave way to a new one. #TombTuesday More...

#TombTuesday with Carreg Coetan in Pembrokeshire
its wild that even with the humongous capstone - one of the uprights at the back isn't even touching
A pleasant dolmen towering high in a field. The capstone is sitting on three support stones (orthostats). There must have been some sort of passage that has gone missing. In a field of crops about 200 metres from the road, but with a signpost. #TombTuesday #France More...
