A #Wander in the hills and #woods today, with a circular walk along (the alternative route of) the #WalesCoastPath between #MargamPark and #Brombil and back again.

Met a very obliging #GreySquirrel on the way to the picturesque ruin of the 14th Century #CapelMair.

The last picture is a panoramic shot (so click, zoom and pan), showing part of the #PortTalbot #TataSteel plant, which is prominent in the UK news at the moment

A Grey Squirrel: A healthy looking Grey Squirrel sits on it's haunches on top of a fallen tree. It's fluffy grey tail is held erect and it's forepaws are held across it's white chest. It's ears, face and front paws are a ginger colour
Capel Mair: Looking up a grass and bracken covered slope towards the Eastern end of a ruined grey stone chapel. Both arched end walls are largely intact, with some stone details around the large windows still visible. The side walls are more damaged, with the closer one to the camera mostly fallen down. The sky is a deep blue with a high thin covering of white cloud breaking up
An Oak and Beech wood: Looking up a wooded slope covered in fallen leaves. The trees are mostly Oaks and Beech In full leaf and the bright sun shining through the canopy gives the light a green tinge
A Panoramic shot from the hills above Margam: Looking from a grassy path above a steep bracken covered slope that leads down to the M4 motorway, which can be seen disappearing into the distance in the left of the photo. From left to Right, the green fields of Margam Park and a large reservoir either side of the motorway give way to the industrial structures of the Tata Steel plant, which stretches to rightmost of the photo. In the distance Swansea and the Gower coastline can be made out over Swansea Bay

Completed my Eastward progress of the South Wales section of the #WalesCoastPath today (meaning I've now completed the sections from Port Talbot to the beginning/end at Chepstow) with a #Wander from #Mathern, finishing at the paths terminus next to #Chepstow's Old #Bridge. Some nice views along the way and some great skies;

-A ploughed field at Mathern

-The #OldWyeBridge in Chepstow

A ploughed field under a blue sky: A gently sloping ploughed field rises to a deep blue sky populated with a few small fluffy white clouds. Sparse green shoots poke through the rich brown earth. The field is bordered with green hedges
The Wye river and the First Severn Bridge: Looking over two green fields bisected by a hedge of bushes and trees to the muddy banked River Wye. The Severn Bridge runs across the scene, crossing firstly the Wye and then in the distance, the unseen Severn. The support towers and suspension wires can be seen above the treeline on the far side of the Wye. In the foreground, the first field holds a small flock of sheep and a single tree rises close to the camera
Chepstow Port Wall: An old high stone wall stretches away from the camera, small sections are missing from the top of the wall at various points and bushes grow on top and from its base. In the foreground an old information plaque is on the wall and a newer one affixed to a large rock in front of it. In the distance the houses of Chepstow can be seen and above a deep blue sky is populated by numerous thick white clouds
The old Wye Bridge at Chepstow: Four brick pylons rise from the muddy water of the Wye, supporting the five arches of a white cast iron bridge. Pairs of ornate white lamp-posts sit at either end and at the midpoint of the bridge. On the far side of the river a few white houses nestle in the trees at the base of a thickly wooded hillside. The sky is mostly made up of thick fluffy white clouds with patches of clear blue poking through.

Back to the #GwentLevels for a #Wander today, From #Goldcliff to #Redwick. Pictured are:
- The Second Severn Crossing (don't make me say it's official name 😏 )
- A "Putcher Rank"; historically, baskets would have been suspended between these rows of stakes to catch fish .
- Looking along Windwill Reen, Llanwern Steelworks in the distance
- St Thomas' Chuch in Redwick showing the highest level the water reached in the "Great Flood of 1606".

The Second Severn Crossing: Looking along the muddy foreshore of the Severn Estuary, the brown water separating Cymru from England is bisected by the slightly arching course of a white bridge. Numerous pillars support the bridge, except for the central section which is suspended by two tall towers. In the far distance, the bright white suspension towers of the older bridge can be seen.
Looking out across the muddy Severn Estuary and to the Somerset coast, where green farmland gives way to the mostly white industrial buildings of Portishead and Avonmouth. Near to the camera, two parallel lines of old wooden staves emerge from the stone and mud of the foreshore and into the water
Looking inland from the sea wall: Looking along the course of a "reen". Thick reed beds line the bank of the shallow channel, initially hiding it's course from sight completely. Further on a metal sluice gate controls the flow of water. A series of narrow footbridges can be seen crossing the reen at various points. In the far distance the grey buildings of Llanwern Steel Works rise from behind a line of trees.
St Thomas' Church at Redwick: The stone wall next to the Porch of the church showing the level to which the water reached during the "Great Flood" of 1606. A Circle with a line through it marks the level, whilst below is inscribed "GREAT FLOOD, A.D. 1606". The mark is just below where the arch starts on the Porch Entrance, approximately 1.3M high
