This is absolutely NUTS! What is wrong with these people??

Trump administration's NOAA is terminating operations of the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) satellites that provide real-time data to hurricane researchers across the country, including National Hurricane Center forecasters. These satellites allow scientists to see through clouds and inside tropical storms and hurricanes, even in the dark.

"The immediate discontinuation of data from 3 weather satellites will severely impact hurricane forecasts this season and beyond.” nola.com/news/hurricane/hurric #NOAA #Satellites #Hurricane2025 #HurricaneSeason #WeatherForecasts #Hurricanes #Fail #Trump

More notes from the live chat by Weather West (Dr. Daniel Swain) on the chaos being wrought upon the National Weather Service:

Dept of Commerce terminated an agreement with a university regarding weather/climate research stated "this cooperative agreement promotes exaggerated climate threats...promoting anxiety..."

A doc from the White House states that the proposed close the NOAA office that does and funds research on weather and oceanographic. NASA is targeted for larger cuts regarding planetary research. Many cooperative research centers will be closed. Proposed is the canceling the partnership between NASA and NOAA, which would end weather satellite updates.

A list of notes on the chaos in the NOAA from the Live Chat by Weather West (Dr. Daniel Swain):

Staff in the Sacramento NWS office is critically understaffed. Monterey office has lost people and are understaffed. Weather balloons to gather vital info twice a day are not being launched due to understaffing, which will degrade weather forecasting. In Canduca (sp?) Kentucky the building of the weather office cannot pay for backed up toilets and all maintenance has been fired. Plus, it forced staff to use an outside porta potty in an active hurricane warning. Hazardous wastes trained staff have been fired and now offices have been shut down due to no one being able to safely dispose of the waste. Some staff have been fired 3x with the firings and rehiring. US global change research program on observed and expected impact of climate change report--the company doing the report were fired, even though it was congressionally mandated.

Firings at US #weather and #oceans agency risk lives and economy, former agency heads warn

By SETH BORENSTEIN
Updated 9:48 AM EST, March 1, 2025

WASHINGTON (AP) — "The federal weather and oceans agency touches people’s daily lives in unnoticed ways, so massive firings there will likely cause needless deaths and a big hit to America’s economy, according to the people who ran it.

"The first round of firings started Thursday at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a government agency that monitors the oceans, the atmosphere where storms roam and space, and puts out hundreds of 'products' daily. Those products generally save lives and money, experts say.

"#NOAA’s 301 billion weather forecasts every year reach 96% of American households.

The firings are 'going to affect safety of flight, safety of shipping, safety of everyday Americans,' Admiral Tim Gallaudet told The Associated Press Friday. President Donald Trump appointed Gallaudet as acting NOAA chief during his last administration. 'Lives are at risk for sure.'

"Former NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad agreed.

"'We’re getting into prime #tornado time. We’re getting into #planting season for the agricultural season for the bread belt,' Spinrad said. 'It’s going to affect safety. It’s going to affect the economy.'"

#Weather and #climate data shown on this website and countless others are at risk.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (#NOAA) is the U.S. agency responsible for global weather #forecasting, #hurricane #prediction, #ocean #observation, and many other services vital to public safety. Its #satellites, #supercomputers, and research teams provide essential #data that help us understand our #planet and #protect #lives.

On February 27, the new U.S. administration initiated mass firings at NOAA. These actions are #unethical and deeply #disruptive to the talented #scientists and #engineers who dedicate themselves to the public good. The firings, along with expected budget cuts, have serious implications for the availability and #quality of #WeatherForecasts produced by the #UnitedStates. They must be reversed immediately.

Much of the data on this website is downloaded directly from NOAA's servers. In this environment of uncertainty, access could be #disrupted at any time. While I'll strive to keep all features on this website functional and switch to alternative data sources if necessary, some datasets have no substitute if they go offline.

If this concerns you, speak up. Share on #SocialMedia. And if you're in the U.S., contact your representatives.
