Fourspot Butterflyfish (Chaetodon quadrimaculatus) – This distinctive butterflyfish gets its name from the four small white spots—two on each side—near the base of its dorsal fin. Found on coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific, particularly around Micronesia and the central Pacific, it primarily feeds on coral polyps, making it a specialist feeder. Unlike some butterflyfish that roam in pairs, the Fourspot Butterflyfish is often seen alone or in small groups. Its reliance on live coral means it's sensitive to reef health and habitat changes, making it an indicator species for reef ecosystems.

Species #002! I hope you’ll follow along!

Rapid resource depletion on #CoralReefs disrupts competitor recognition processes among #butterflyfish species zenodo.org/record/7418159#.Y7V

Mass #CoralBleaching events are making it harder for some species of reef fish to identify competitors. They make poorer decisions that leave them less able to avoid unnecessary fights.

Very much enjoyed making this one...
