This evening, 5min from our house - a bit of Turner/Friedrich on the way to our local gym. I do love living in #Eastbourne

“I had a covid and flu jab which left me a bit unwell and the brain wasn't functioning properly when I was due to be delivering some training in #Eastbourne.
I duly arrived at St Leonards warrior square station, saw the Eastbourne train was on time, a train came into the station and I got on.

Is it just me that loves finding faded painted shop signs. Relics of the past #history #Eastbourne
'#HeartOrSmart? Did #TacticalVoting make a difference?
One thing's for sure, there isn’t a #Tory seat now between #Eastbourne and #WestWorthing'

Earlier this week I #hiked from #Seaford to #Eastbourne - over the #SevenSisters, and up and down #BeachyHead. A fantastic ~18km #hike in great weather ... with a *lot* of hills! 98 "flights of stairs" total, according to my phone #UKHiking #SouthDownsWay #countryside #sussex #england
#ClimateDiary #GE2024 #Eastbourne Adding this detailed report. Of little interest to anyone outside Eastbourne, but still: it’s a record of a small town environment hustings held in June 2024 - in all its limitations as well as potentials.
#ClimateDiary #GE2024 #Eastbourne 2/2 But veering as we did btw climate questions and local beach pollution, i reflected on Environment/climate being simultaneously very global (too big for an eastbourne debate!) and very local (too small to matter much). But then also in how the whole thing of electing a local MP who is supposed to represent your town’s interest but simultaneously constitutes the government and wider policies- it’s a similar local/wider dynamic that doesn’t quite work.
#ClimateDiary #GE2024 We had an Environment Hustings yesterday in #Eastbourne - thank you to Gemma Aellah from Bespoke Cycling and all other organisers - and thanks to all our candidates Josh Babarinde (LibDem), Caroline Ansell (Conservative), Paul Richards (Labour) and Mike Hudson (Greens ), and the Reform and Ukip candidates whose names I didn’t catch. We had a lively debate and it was so good for putting Environment firmly on the agenda of whoever wins (most likely Josh Babarinde). 1/2

Thinking about impermanence, all the more at the moment because if i lose my job we might have to move. I have moved so much in my life and used to not mind, but I really love Eastbourne and really don’t want to move; I wonder whether that’s also because of an overall sense of uncertainty and insecurity. Or maybe i am just getting older and all change seems bad..
#ClimateDiary #Eastbourne After the exhibition we went to seafront itself; tried to take pictures of beautiful cliff gardens - see last year’s! On #WildFlowerHour! - but will need to come back in morning with better light. Still, beautiful as always but yes, crumbling… #TheCrumble
#ClimateDiary If anyone here is near #Eastbourne in the next few weeks: do come and see the Emma Stibbon “melting ice rising tide” exhibition at the Towner Gallery, which rather brilliantly connects her polar art with new work on the changing Sussex coast line.
