Working on getting this big boy cleaned and situated this week...
Something you don’t see often, or at all! A Sperry terminal from around 1980 I think. If you have any experience of these then I’d love to get it up and running! #RetroComputing #univac
Early #Philadelphia #computer #history. Mom worked for S. Reid Warren (https://conservancy.umn.edu/handle/11299/107704); office was near Eckert's & Mauchly's @ Penn's Moore School. So many of my friends' folks worked for #UNIVAC (https://www.computerhistory.org/revolution/early-computer-companies/5/106).
This sign reminds me of one I'd see when out running near El Camino, in Mountain View (CA) area—was in front of a closed Oreck store (near San Antonio Center?); maybe the first Silicon Valley semiconductor plant? Plus ça change...

Speaking of #SapphireAndSteel, there's a #Geochron in Story 5, set at Summer Solstice 1980.
Geochrons are amazing electromechanical visual timepieces that display time for the entire globe simultaneously, and show the moving terminator between night and day.
Here's a tour of the Geochron factory:

Bonus #Univac terminal in this episode, and a snazzy electromechanical calendar.
Found a pretty interesting drawing template for flowcharts at Art Parts in #boulder today. Not particularly useful but I couldn't resist when I saw the branding on it. #mainframe #univac #sperry #retrocomputing
