I know it’s a minor nitpick. But I read a book that focused on the events between the election and the outbreak of war. I can’t actually recommend it because it was written by a confederate apologist.
Even he couldn’t hide the fact that congress had not even tried to outlaw slavery. They had barely started meeting. But they also wouldn’t give in to slave state demands to pass a resolution that would extend slavery to new states.
