I was thinking today about the whole "We have x at home" For example a kid asking for a coke and the parent says we have coke at home, it's really RC cola or something like that.

Growing up my parents would do this. For example, I really wanted a pair of Nike shoes. My parents would say you have them at home, but they were Fila.

Given the neighborhood I grew up in LA, it was probably a good thing I wasn't sporting the latest Nike shoes. Same goes for cool hoodies and what not.

I have a habit of collecting memories. A few days ago, while organizing my bookshelf, I found a note I wrote to myself just before my college entrance exams. It was a short page, filled with emotions I can hardly touch anymore.

What is now a tablerunner started out as a costume idea. For "Karneval" last year, I made more than 250 "African flower" hexagons and turned it into a 70s style Poncho as an homage to the famous "Prilblume". When I grew up, the dish soap company Pril used to have these flower stickers on their packaging. A core memory of my childhood. After it served its purpose as a costume, I just needed to add a few more flowers in the middle to turn it into a tablerunner.

Years ago, I found a VHS tape from my childhood. It was the early '80s, I was a little kid, and my uncle was filming with one of the first VHS cameras. I was at the beach, walking on the sand. I walked carefully, avoiding sharp shells or any pointed stones that might hurt me. I still do that today. My uncle would often ask, "Are you walking on eggshells?" to highlight my cautious, delicate steps. Sadly, my uncle has been gone for thirteen years now. But those words, recorded on tape, often play in my mind. When I need to move carefully—whether physically or metaphorically—I hear his voice and see that little blond boy (yes, incredible, right?) moving cautiously on the sand.
