That “quotation” is my tweaking of something attributed to Socrates and illustrates a zombie idea that, at any point in history young people are worse than in some mythical golden time.
I became a teacher in my early 40’s and was delighted to find out that “the young people of today” were certainly no worse than my generation and in many ways more impressive.

Young people today love luxury, and have contempt for authority. They show no respect for their elders and hang out chatting instead of taking exercise.
They dominate their homes and ignore what parents say. They talk in front of adults and spend their time eating junk food and playing with their latest gadgets.
In school they bully their teachers.
