The same day we released the body camera footage of Seattle cop Nathan Patterson beating a recently evicted homeless veteran for no reason the office of police accountability completed their investigation.
They recommended a single day suspension as punishment.

During that incident, Patterson beat a handcuffed man, according to the suit. Called in on a non-criminal noise complaint, multiple SPD officers bum-rushed the backyard after the tenant refused to let them in.
In 2012, Patterson boasted that he hit someone so hard that he broke his nightstick, an apparent reference to a time when SPD violently busted up a backyard party in Columbia City.
In 2021 Patterson bragged about beating someone so hard he broke his nightstick. In 2020 he was seen punching a George Floyd protester who was already on the ground for no reason.
We've been focused on Patterson from the beginning because he's so symptomatic of the deep rot at SPD.
SPD is under federal consent decree because of guys like this. And what does SPD do? Puts them in charge of supervising and molding the next generation.
Patterson gunned down Henry Frankie Lee, Sr., a 77-year-old Black man with Alzheimer’s who called the police to report a prowler. (5/11)
You can see that Patterson already has his baton in his hand. He's effectively committed at this point because he can't use both hands to put the man's arm behind his back.
Patterson has been named in lawsuits costing the city over a million.
OPA completed the investigation in January and issued sustained findings against Patterson but not the other officer.
The chief still hasn't issued discipline. Patterson has been on leave since last year. He may be burning off his leave before retiring.
EXCLUSIVE: SPD has finally released the bodycam footage of a beating at a bus stop in South Seattle last year.
The video shows notoriously violent officer Sgt Nathan Patterson throw the man down and start pummeling him after the slightest resistance.

South precinct sergeant: 'Gotta hit those people of color the hardest'
Named in several suits, Nathan Patterson previously joked about breaking a baton on someone's back. OPA recently found he used excessive force against a homeless man.
