So, sometimes I make a mistake with #VGMWednesday as when I play things, especially on the deck, I don't necessarily have the sound on. Which means I have to trawl through the OST of a recent game to find something of interest. This happens more often than you think.

Anyway, today, we have a decent little track from Kingsley's Adventure. This is the music for Sea Town, the first town you go to help out, and honestly, I dig it. It's quite a jam, and I need to remind myself that almost NOTHING happens in Sea Town. A lot of the towns don't have a lot going on, oh well, doesn't diminish the track.

[Addition: I say nothing happens in Sea Town, I forget that the first dungeon of the game is an extension of the Sea Town area. So the music probably carries over into that section]

The game also has some other pretty solid tracks for a relatively average game with platforming issues.

Oooo, the #PlayStation1 horror game Iru! Has just had an achievement set created for it.

This has been on my radar for a while, as I love the whole aesthetic of PS1 horror, so I am looking really looking forward to playing this one soon...
Or do I wait till October?

On a different platform I got tagged for my fave horror game!

Brutal choice ‘cause I love so many… but I gotta share my best horror gaming memory, and it’s all about this one. It was ‘96 or ‘97, so I was like 11 or 12, having a sleepover at my buddy Iiro’s place. He’d borrowed a PlayStation from a neighbor, and Resident Evil was in the stack.

Feelin’ all badass, we fired it up late at night. But the second we hit that hallway after the lobby—you know, where you meet the first zombie—we were like, “Nope. Hell no. Too freakin’ scary.” So yeah, we totally chickened out and spent the rest of the night playing Gran Turismo or something instead.

Man, wish games and movies still hit like that.

So, originally, I was intending to record a Let's Play of this game, but I will probably do a second run for the channel, which will aim to get the 100% achievements.

The game in question is Disruptor on the #PS1, and honestly, I had a blast playing this. A terablast!
(What do you mean nobody will get that joke? It's funny because it is an in-ga- nevermind)

Released in 1996, this little shooter makes great use of the CD format by having FMV cutscenes! The perfect cutscene format for any game.
It feels a bit like Doom in the sense you have no vertical aiming, but you can jump, and the game engine allows for actual 3D environments.

It was fun and moderately challenging, but not too taxing on the hard difficulty. If you are looking for an alternative retro shooter, I highly recommend you give this one a look at!

#TodayInHistory 1994 - #Sony introduces the #PlayStation in Japan.

It features a 33MHz 32-bit MIPS R3000A processor, with special audio and graphics functions, geometry coprocessor, 2 MB RAM, 1 MB video RAM. Price is $399.

It became the first console to ship over 100 million units. Its use of compact discs heralded the game industry's transition from cartridges. More than 4,000 PlayStation games were released, with cumulative sales of 962 million units.

Continued thread

Some of the pinch points that makes #TomorrowNeverDies on the #PS1 so frustrating is the game is... Kinda janky.

When you don't know about these things, they can really catch you off guard. The example below comes from Mission 9, but it does happen in numerous other spots in the game, but this one I could trigger.

Sometimes, enemies will only spawn in when they are off camera, which means they will often spawn behind you and riddle you with bullets before you turn yourself back around.

And trust me, that guy wasn't waiting around the corner and popped out as I panned the camera around.

So, I am not that familiar with #TomorrowNeverDies it is a #JamesBond film i barely remember. But how does the #PS1 game fare?

Well, it's a 3rd person shooter, not my first choice, but workable. It is also a bit of a ball buster, and the game knows it.

The game gives you lives, that's quite a courtesy, so if something bad happens, you pop right back up and continue there, no immediate reset of the mission there. Courtesy 2, you can carry up to 10 health packs, and each health pack heals you by 1-2 health pips per use. Nice!

Now, the catch, you will haemorrhage hit points. If you don't get the first shots in and either get a lucky quick kill or stun lock, your health and armour will drain like no tomorrow.

First-time playthroughs will end in disaster as you wrestle with some of the nonsense, if you know where the enemies are and the extra lives, it can still be quite a frustrating play that borders a little on the unfair.

I held back a little bit this week as I was working my way through an additional game that, quite frankly, was a bit like pulling teeth.

I can now say that I have been able to master the #PS1 era #JamesBond games on #Retroachievements, something I didn't anticipate doing, but with some of the achievements, you almost might as well as you are already playing the game, learning the tricks and quirks...
Plus, it wasn't like *most* of them weren't absolute BS, as they were part of the in-game cheat unlocking mechanics (Tomorrow Never Dies aside), so surely these challenges are reasonable achievable.... Right? RIGHT?

Oh boy, yeah, I need to do something on these games to give them the proper chat about they deserve.
