For some reason, the reference to the 'Ladies of Partick' on this sign on the Jubilee Gates of Victoria Park of the West of Glasgow always amuses me, possibly because it now comes across as a rather antiquated phrase. The gates themselves were created by the Saracen Foundry in Possilpark and were erected in 1887 to mark Queen Victoria's 50th Year on the throne.

#Melbourne has several of at least the southern hemisphere’s finest: #SouthMelbourne Market is perfection; #Prahran Market has great produce and a strong local vibe; while #QueenVictoria #Market is a genuine tourist attraction that has been there for almost 150 years”

The Age · Truly great cities all have one thing that Sydney doesn’tBy Ben Groundwater

Reading about the first opium war and came across what seemed an interesting contrary take, but the author lost me with this sentence.

I wonder which of Queen Victoria being:
- young
- a woman
- recently assuming the role she’d trained half her life for
- recently married
had any relevance whatsoever to how involved the British head of state was in foreign policy at that time…

I kind of feel the implicit bias here indicates the risk of implicit bias in the rest of the analysis…

Check out this rare photo of Queen Victoria (1819-1901) and Prince Albert (1819-61) taken at Buckingham Palace.

🌸 Queen Victoria is in her formal court dress, while Prince Albert holds a feathered hat in his uniform. They just attended a Drawing Room ceremony at St. James's Palace, where people were presented to the Queen.

👑 This is one of the first photos of Queen Victoria as a reigning monarch.

A Brit writes:

British-Irish relations have a long and complex history, but we should not allow ourselves to be so dazzled by this magnificent Star of St Patrick that we are blind to the negligence and narrow mindedness of Victoria in regard to Ireland. These unpleasant and destructive attitudes are exemplified by her behaviour during the Famine .

IrishCentral.comThe real story of Queen Victoria and the Irish FamineQueen Victoria was dubbed "The Famine Queen" by Irish revolutionary Maud Gonne, but in reality, did she push her government to do more to help the famine-stricken Irish?

Medallions of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert on the 1871 Albert Bridge between Saltmarket and Laurieston Drive in Glasgow. They were created by George Edwin Ewing and are positioned in such a way that they're looking towards each other from opposite sides of the Clyde. Originally, Queen Victoria's crown would have been gilded, but over time this has weathered away.
