We had the great fortune of visiting Sicily recently and it completely shattered my expectations. Hope to get back.

Balcony terraces are recessed and in purple-blue shadows above overhangs and canopies to ground floor store fronts. The store to the left has a canary colored awning hanging over blue-green storefront window displays and an interior on shades purples, reds and oranges. The store to the right has a white awning hanging over a dark store interior and orange wares hanging from a board leaned against the building. Separating the two stores is a gated and papered empty entry way. The sun casts long rectangular shadows within the balcony grates.

This is my very first Atmospheric Landscape watercolor painting, following the techniques of Sarah Cray. It's a bit of a mess! My style has evolved so much since this first attempt!

This is a atmospheric watercolor landscape. It is filled with color: blues, greens, yellows that really dominate in dark and medium values. The lightest values are at the center above the horizon line where the golden hues are also concentrated. Below the horizon line is mostly dark to medium value of indigo pulled down with vertical smears. There are also silhouettes of leafless trees. The foreground slants slightly down towards the center where there is a void of any darkness giving an appearance of depth and distance.

Watercolor painting of the Bethlehemkerk in The Hague, Netherlands. A red-orange brick church with gray slate, steep roofs resides in the middle band of the scene taking up two-thirds of the view. A tall clock tower in the center has its upper belfry cut off and a large shadow runs along the side of the church into the distance and intersection of another building on the lower right. The sidewalks and streets in the foreground are slightly wet while black and white striped poles, in purple shade, rise to provide traffic lights and electrical wire.
