Le satellite #Biomass est bien arrivé au Centre Spatial Guyanais !

Son objectif : Cartographier la biomasse forestière mondiale pour mieux comprendre le rôle des forêts dans le cycle du carbone et les changements climatiques

“Activists take over lobbyist for toxic Drax and Heathrow – as Starmer ramps up climate attacks”

“Grassroots network Axe Drax has targeted a key lobbyist for the UK’s largest carbon polluter. This comes as Keir Starmer’s compromised corporatist Labour Party government ramps up its attacks on the climate”

Urgent Action: Stop Disastrous Decision to Extend Drax’s Subsidies

The Government has just made the disastrous decision to hand billions more in subsidies to tree burners #Drax and Lynemouth. This is a decision to push up emissions, energy bills and profits for Drax’s shareholders. Rather than listening to the science, the Government is pouring billions more into the economic black hole of Drax.

While this decision is disappointing, it is not the end of this campaign. The fight to end dirty tree burning, and to transition to genuinely #CleanEnergy and #GreenJobs is far from over.

We need our MP’s to take action in Parliament and do everything they can to put a stop to this reckless decision. Please take the time today to make it clear to this Government and your MP that we will not stand by and allow them to pour our money into forest destruction and #pollution.

Marine protected areas (MPAs) with shared governance had a 98% chance of having higher fish biomass than those with single (state) governance, and the average biomass difference was 32%.

"Proponents suggest that shared ... governance ..[incorporates] the interests, values, knowledge, and resources of diverse groups in the planning and implementation of [MPAs]."

journals.plos.orgShared governance increases marine protected area effectivenessMarine protected areas (MPAs) are widely used to conserve and manage coastal resources. Protected areas are governed by a variety of institutional arrangements, yet little is known concerning the relative performance of different governance approaches. This research draws upon a unique dataset that combines details on the reported International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) governance categories of 217 global MPAs and their ecological outcomes to compare the performance of alternative governance arrangements. We find that MPAs with shared governance arrangements, where management authority is shared among multiple government and non-government actors, are 98% more likely to have higher fish biomass than MPAs governed by state agencies (i.e., primarily government) alone (mean effect size and 95% C.I = 0.32 ± 0.31). We also find higher biomass in older MPAs, those in countries with higher gross domestic product (GDP), and those with a higher proportion of no-take area. With targets to protect 30% of our oceans driving new commitments to expand MPA coverage globally, our results suggest that multi-stakeholder participation and collaboration facilitated by shared and decentralized governance arrangements can play an important role in achieving conservation outcomes.

Potential #IPCC rule changes could award planned carbon savings from burning #wood rather than fossil fuels to the wood exporter, not the importer, as per current EU accounting rules... Accounting is much more policy than science.
