"In sports news, #Republicans #sold #Taiwan to Communist #China for a 3rd round draft pick, and some unannounced #bribes to be paid later"

Because this is how things go these days.

It's not even #news.

It's just #Entertainment.

Some videos of smart #bombs, ships, buildings blowing up, and then non-stop #ads for #ChickFilA, #WalMart and some drugs for #acne and #gas that have #fatal side effects.

Good times people. Enjoy while you can.

Who was behind this plan that could have sent #airplanes crashing to the ground after exploding in flames?

It wasn’t al Qaeda, or ISIS, or Hezbollah, or any other designated #terrorist organization.

It was Russia."

“We released them today,” #Trump said of the #bombs. “They’ve been waiting for them for a long time. You know, they’ve been in storage for a long time & we released them today to #Israel.”
#Biden halted delivery of the large bombs in May as part of an effort to keep Israel from launching an all-out assault on the southern #Gaza city of #Rafah. A month later, Israel did take control of the city, but after the vast majority of the 1M #civilians that had been living or sheltering in Rafah had fled.

So, fracturing amongst the various environmental and social justice groups has been going on as long as I've been in the movement. But there have always been those (like myself and some of my colleagues in #EarthFirst and the #ThomasMortonAlliance and #AIM) that saw #HumanRights abuses and #EnvironmentalPollution as being connected -- and that #CorporateGreed was the main driver of most of the issues facing our planet!

Hear Me Out: In 2025, Climate Activists Should Spend Less Time on Climate

If you’re a climate activist who doesn’t know what to do for the next four years, the answer is remarkably simple: Join other movements.

“[Climate is] not more urgent than kids being ripped away from their families and dying in the desert—anyone who tries to win that argument is monstrous themselves. We either merge, join forces, or we lose,” #NaomiKlein, 2019.

"Yet my optimism arises out of a different trend in the climate movement: Climate activists are (finally) showing up for other movements.

"Historically, the climate movement has attempted to isolate itself from other political and social issues, arguing that climate policy is 'just science.' This majority-white movement has failed to see that fossil fuel emissions are part of a larger history of the Global North #colonizing and exploiting both people and the planet for decades. The climate crisis is a symptom of a broader exploitative system. To change that system, we need a united left that will fight for all people—not just those who identify as environmentalists.

"In 2020, climate activists were rightfully berated for not showing up enough for the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Thankfully, I think many climate activists heard that message because today, they have come out in droves for #Palestine.

"Many of the college students who organized campus encampments last spring to urge their school administrators to divest from Israel and the U.S. imperial war machine were students who had previously organized for climate justice. I witnessed this firsthand at the Claremont Colleges when I was a senior: The student organizations demanding fossil fuel divestment fell to the wayside as the crisis in Gaza intensified. Globally, many climate organizations chose to speak out and take direct action to call for a cease-fire in Gaza.

"But none of these climate activists had stopped caring about the climate. In fact, they often pointed out that Israel’s actions were not just #genocide, but #ecocide as well. The onslaught of #bombs dropped on Gaza will contaminate the soil and groundwater in the region for decades. And the destruction has produced at least 54.5 million tons of carbon dioxide, equal to the annual emissions of 16 coal-fired power plants.

"Climate activists cannot claim to fight for a just future and stay silent about genocide. 'If we, as climate activists, aren’t able to see and speak up against the current #marginalization and oppression and killing of people today, then I don’t think we should be able to call ourselves #climatejustice [activists],' climate champion #GretaThunberg told Al Jazeera in early December 2024.

"As Trump prepares to enter the White House, we will undoubtedly see more people oppressed and killed. Among the many groups who are vulnerable under his administration are undocumented immigrants, whom Trump has vowed to round up and deport.

"Migrant justice has long been intertwined with climate justice. As climate change makes many areas around the world uninhabitable, climate refugees have no choice but to leave their home.

In response to Trump’s election, climate organizers Jeff Ordower and Ahmed Gaya called on their fellow activists to bring their experiences of shutting down pipelines and coal plants to fight the incarceration and deportation we can expect under Trump. Climate activists should answer this call: The struggles for migrant justice and climate justice are intertwined, and we must meet the needs of the current moment.

"'[Climate is] not more urgent than kids being ripped away from their families and dying in the desert—anyone who tries to win that argument is monstrous themselves. We either merge, join forces, or we lose,' writer and activist Naomi Klein said in 2019.

"With Trump as president, things will undoubtedly get worse before they get better. We need to build a strong left to fight fascism during Trump’s presidency and to build a just green future in its aftermath. To do so, climate activists must put their words into action when they say they fight for every living being."

Today in Labor History January 8, 1892: 500-600 anarchist peasants led a revolt in Andalusia, taking over the town of Jerez and demanding the release of prisoners and economic relief. The authorities quickly quashed the uprising, killing three. They captured and tortured the leaders, executing four of them on February 10. They sentenced another 14 to life imprisonment. The Cadiz labor movement had to go underground because the general repression was so severe. But the Cadiz anarchist movement continued, culminating with the 1933 uprising at Casas Viejas, and subsequent massacre by soldiers. The press condemned the government’s response. Protests erupted in many parts of Spain and other parts of Europe. Activists clashed with police at Spanish consulates throughout Europe. Anarchists set off numerous bombs in retaliation. Anarchist Paulí Pallàs tried to assassinate Catalonia Captain General Arsenio Martínez Campos for his role in the Jerez uprising's repression and executions. Pallas was executed for this. Jerome Mintz wrote about this history in his classic, “The Anarchists of Casas Viejas,” (1982).

Today in Labor History January 8, 1933: Anarchist uprisings began in Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia. While the northern uprisings were quickly suppressed, another anarchist uprising broke out in the Andalusian town of Casas Viejas on January 11, led by members of the anarchosyndicalist CNT union. The Civil Guards ultimately quashed it, too, slaughtering 24 people. For more on the Casas Viejas incident, read the detailed history in, “The Anarchists of Casas Viejas,” by Jerome R Mintz.

"Nov 1, 2024
Palestinians recover the bodies of those killed by an Israeli air strike in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza on Friday.
At least 47 Palestinians were killed in overnight Israeli strikes on central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah, Nuseirat refugee camp and Zawayda, most of whom were women and children."

Hot meals 4 Starved Palestinian Kids in #NorthGaza

Update on October 10th, 2024 by Hani Almadhoun, Organizer

"Salam, welcome and hello everyone,

"I hope you’re doing well. As I prepare to leave for Atlanta, where we have a major event coming up, I reflect on the significance of raising awareness and funds for Palestine. It’s hard to believe how often we crisscross the country for this cause, but it’s always worth it—it’s a calling. This work, though increasingly difficult, is fueled by the resilience of our people and the steadfast support from allies who have faced these conditions for more than 75 years. You, too, are a part of this marathon for justice, not a sprint, and for that, I thank you.

"Currently, I haven’t been able to reach my family for five days. The Israeli military is conducting a heavy campaign in #NorthGaza, not far from where my parents live. The constant sound of #bombs, #drones, and explosions has become their grim reality. #Hospitals are under siege, and patients, particularly infants in incubators, are left behind. This is the third military campaign in North Gaza in less than a year, and it’s clear that these actions are part of a calculated effort to depopulate the region. But make no mistake—my family and neighbors have no intention of leaving.

"Even amid these horrific circumstances, they choose to stay, preferring to face whatever comes with dignity in their own community.

"In #SouthGaza, prices for basic necessities have tripled, and our kitchen in Al Zawaydah is stretched to its limits. Today, we prepared Romanya, a beloved dish with tahini, eggplant, and bits of meat. Though our budget has doubled, and pots are hard to come by, we pledge to serve more people as long as we can secure the resources.

"Our water deliveries continue—five trucks daily across North Gaza, Khan Younes, and the middle region. These deliveries are lifesaving for tens of thousands of families. In Khan Younes, we brighten the days of displaced children by handing out breakfast pastries and running our classroom, where Ms. Fatma teaches English and serves snacks to eager students. We’ve also distributed olive pickling kits as part of the harvest tradition, keeping hope alive in the face of overwhelming hardship.

"In North Gaza, we’ve had to close both the #school and #SoupKitchen for safety reasons. However, our clinic remains open, treating 30–50 people daily, especially with Kamal Adwan Hospital under siege. My brother Mohamed continues relief efforts in Al Sheikh Radwan, delivering water, bread, and ready-to-eat meals to schools turned shelters. He’s supported by his children, Anas, Hany, and Mai, ensuring we help as many as possible despite the dangerous conditions."

Today in Labor History October 9, 1967: The Plowshares movement began when Father Daniel Berrigan, his brother Philip, and six others (the "Plowshares Eight") trespassed onto the General Electric Re-entry Division, in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, where Mark 12A reentry vehicles for the Minuteman III missile were made. They beat on the reentry vehicles with hammers and poured blood on documents and prayed for peace. In 1983, Plowshares activists entered AVCO Systems Division in Wilmington, Massachusetts, where MX and Pershing II missiles were made, and damaged plans and equipment there. There were several other similar Plowshares actions. Many of the activists were imprisoned, including the Berrigan brothers. The longest Plowshares sentence was 18 years, given to activists for entering a Minuteman II missile silo in 1984. The Berrigan brothers’ legal battle was depicted in Emile de Antonio's 1982 film “In the King of Prussia,” which starred Martin Sheen and featured appearances by the Plowshares Eight as themselves. Ploughshares actions have continued into the 21st century with the April 30, 2008, action in Blenheim, New Zealand, where activists damaged the ECHELON signal interception program, causing $1.2 million in damages; with the 2009, action at the U.S. Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor, where Trident nuclear weapons are stored or deployed on Trident submarines; with the 2012 action at the U.S. Department of Energy's Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, which forced a temporary closure of the weapons facility; and the 2018 action at King’s Bay Naval Submarine Base.
