The #WeekendWaterbirds are #Wigeon and the #SaturdaySwans are #Whoopers. I can't guarantee there's not a #BewicksSwan or two among the #WhooperSwans too - reputedly there were, though I didn't have the optics/patience-for-freezing-my-bits-off to make them out.

A lagoon, frozen in the foreground and around the edges. Wigeon stand or lie on the nearest ice, while swans with yellow bills swim on the little open water or stand in the distance, with half a dozen just flying in to join them.

Whooper Swan Landing

The Whooper Swan (Cygnus cygnus), found mainly in Scandinavia and Russia, grows up to 160 cm long and has a wingspan of up to 200 cm. It is about the same size as a Mute Swan, but its bill resembles that of the much smaller Bewick's Swan. Whooper Swans feed mainly on plants.

Singschwan landet

Der hauptsächlich in Skandinavien und Russland vorkommende Singschwan (Cygnus cygnus) wird bis zu 160 cm groß und bekommt eine Spannweite von bis zu 200 cm. Er ist ungefähr so groß wie ein Höckerschwan, der Schnabel sieht aber eher wie der vom deutlich kleineren Zwergschwan aus. Singschwäne ernähren sich vor allem von Pflanzen.
