@massivelyop Well.... ooof. On the one hand I kinda agree with those but on the other I disagree with them at the same time.
The Secret World and what it did wright/wrong is a topic I seem to revsit semi-regularly. I've come to the conclusion that some of the things it did "wrong" in the genre were actually reasons I not only enjoyed my time there but found memorable. I LOVED the investigation missions, but then I'm a huge nerd and would do them in-character with others in my Cabal who were also in-character (in between runs of the PvP arenas like Fusang because that's how we rolled).
The charlie brown football analogy for the factions is pretty good though. My frustration at how dumb our supposed world-changing secret societies seemed to be at times was one of my biggest complaints!
It did feel lacking in width at times though. As in other activities and fluff like housing/Cabal housing. Not depth - it has tons of lore to immerse into. Not height - some very vertical progression there (and yes I see what they were TRYING to do with AEGIS not affecting lower zones: it's final form was much better than its truly awful debut).
Oh and the game introduced a dodge roll for it's (not great) combat -before- those were de rigeur everywhere else, and it would annoy me no end playing something else and trying to roll out of the way of an attack and remembering that the something else didn't have that option....
