Micaiah Johnson's Space Between the Worlds audiobook is on sale at libro.fm and other outlets. It and its sequel are harsh and hopeful books, and I recommend them highly, though-fair warning-they are not easy or comfortable. The violence in the parallel worlds is ubiquitous but it should also be recognizable to those in our world, since it is drawn from the same places. The characters are excellent and complex.

"Everyone knew Beyle…

People felt weird around her, as though they were neither male nor female…

She was recommended to see a noted professor and under his supervision, Beyle became a man…

And they were no longer Beyle, but Berl"

She was Elisa Rae Shoup, the first person ever in the US to get officially recognized as non-binary. They briefly detransitioned from 2019-2022 and were exploited (their own word) by far right transphobes to attack transgender health care. They retransitioned after that. Now they're dead, driven to suicide by the country that hated and reviled them for being who they were.

Remember the veteran found hanged by suicide at a VA hospital? How they wouldn't give a name? How the news reports used "he/him" pronouns? They've been identified finally, and their suicide note has been published. It's a scorching condemnation of America and it's hatred for trans people.

#Abolition #BlackMastodon #BlackTwitter #BLM #TransGender #Allyship #LBGTQ+ I’ll close by saying I am so proud of our grassroots communities. There was an intruder during the rally who jumped on stage, white dude with a very heavy backpack. The community organized security handled him perfectly. The rally went forward, no one was hurt and the police were not needed. We keep us safe. Shout out to Harriet’s Wildest Dream for being totally awesome. 7/7

#Abolition #BlackMastodon #BlackTwitter #BLM #TransGender #Allyship #LBGTQ+ After some speechifying we marched to the Supreme Court building, and then onto the Heritage Foundation with a big “FUCK PROJECT 2025,” banner. And there in front of the headquarters the group formed a dance line, complete with a DJ! Just like that a party happened with queerness on full display in front of the Heritage Foundation. Some of their staff went on the roof and just stared. 5/7

I recognized most of the main stream speakers and organizations but I realized I didn’t know any of the folks on the stage from the trans community. They clearly were icons, celebs and activists well known in that community but I didn’t know any of them. On the surface that looks fine because I am neither trans nor queer, but as the day went on, the fact that I didn’t know them bothered me. What kind of ally was I? 4/7

#Abolition #BlackMastodon #BlackTwitter #BLM #TransGender #Allyship #LBGTQ+ I was first struck by how upbeat the gathering was. For a little while I was looking for a word to describe what I was seeing….it came to me after a bit. The word was JOY. Yes, the topics were serious, but the crowd was joyful, feeling safe, and comfortable in who they were and the life choices they made, feeling free, and demanding the right to have their genders and reproductive choices protected. 3/7
