To get enough fuel ⛽ into #orbit for a #Mars 🔴 mission would require at least 10 launches of the #SLS rocket, or about $20 billion 💰. Just for the fuel. To use traditional propulsion, one needs to push the boundaries of #reuse ♻️ and heavy lift rockets to extreme limits—which is precisely what #SpaceX is trying to do with its fully reusable launch system arstechnica.com/science/2021/0

I shan't be saving so many glass jars and bottles in future.

For last week's delivery from La Fourche I cleared out the jars which had come from them and returned them, packed in one of their (also returnable) bags as directed by the delivery driver who was clearly proud of the scheme.

The jars will be sterilised and re-used.

Perhaps one day the milk will come in bottles, too...
#ReUse

I was thinking of buying a new-to-me #Thinkpad next month, but I think what I'll do instead is try to spruce up my #PinebookPro:

  • Get new rubber feet
  • Get a bigger SSD
  • Install #pmOS and finally have #FDE on the thing
  • Put some proper locktite on the screws so it's not falling apart all the time

I need to look up some videos on applying threadlocker to screws. It's much looser stuff than the typical locktite and it tends to make a mess.

I'm debating just dribbling locktite (regular CA) on top of the screws as well to try to make them a little more permanent. Not a great solution, but the thing just loves to fall apart.

It's always best to try to #reuse! <3

@simonzerafa I mean obviously #reuse / #UseLonger is better and if your options are "corporate surplus" or nothing then I'd never judge.

To me it's just that #ThinkPad as a brand has really died as every single Device is a #downgrade in #repairability & #upgradeability compared to my #X230Tablet:

Personally, I wish I had €.€€€.€€€ so I could just develop the #NUCbook and be done with the #Enshittification of #Laptops / #Notebooks!

I made a new dress from a 1970s table cloth today.
No pictures of the finished dress, because I had to leave for our Full Moon celebration before I could have any taken.
But you can see the trick tat I use when I need to gather a lot of fabric, especially if it's a stiffer fabric: zig-zag stitch over cotton yarn, and then pulling the yarn to gather the fabric. My mum taught me this . If you want very neat gathers you should go with the standard two rows of gathering stitches, and then sewing between them, but this is even enough for most projects. And no risk of breaking gathering threads.
