#dissonance

Remember that #story last week, where the #US #FBI came out and actually recommended people switch to using #encrypted #communications, because Chinese government hackers had burrowed deeply into the US phone infrastructure ?

Remember the #cognitive #dissonance that announcement caused, after literally decades of the FBI and other #American #intelligence agencies demanding backdoors and key escrow and deliberately weakened #encryption #algorithms?

Ya, well, apparently part of that announcement was missed. They're still demanding "responsibly managed encryption":

forbes.com/sites/zakdoffman/20

Remember: "responsible encryption" is neither. It's their demand for a back-door. And every back door can be used by the "bad guys" just as easily as it can be used by the "good guys". Anyone who tells you different is #lying to your face; encryption is math, and there is no such thing as math which the "good guys" can do but which the "bad guys" cannot.

The #USA intelligence agencies' demand for backdoors to be built into all parts of the #phone system years ago are exactly what let the #Chinese government #hackers to penetrate and control the phone system now, and which they aren't going to be able to fix for many years, if at all, because it would require replacing a *lot* of equipment with versions that don't have back doors (and which would then not be eavesdrop-able at will).

She doesn’t eat meat
-- an admission she gave in her RNC speech that reportedly drew gasps from the crowd

and perhaps most importantly, her political views, what was known of them, do not seem particularly MAGA.

Since her recent elevation to the national scene, many publications have tried to pick apart what #Usha #Vance's political leanings are,
and when they might have changed.

She most recently worked for a law firm that is known for its commitment to DEI;

she told her friends she was outraged by Jan. 6, 2021;

and in her youth, those around her seemed to assume she was a left-of-center thinker.

There’s a specific kind of #cognitive #dissonance that comes from watching a woman of color
who seemed to have been intellectually reared in progressive circles
endear herself to this iteration of the Republican Party,

so it’s no surprise that the main question being asked of Usha Vance has ended up:

Is she actually a Republican, or what?

@johnnyprofane1 There is so much about the normative #allistic social gauntlet I just don’t get. Sometimes I wonder if this perplexing outcome of expressed #individuality and obvious surrender to #populism is merely a continuation of that same game that happens in our teens, and they just never got over it.

I suppose I didn’t consider if my confusion over #political behavior might also be part of my social #dissonance. Very possibly!

(Most governments and treatment providers, Cohen argued, don’t want to publicly #expose “the #DarkHeart ” of our #MentalHealth system—that a #CoreFunction is to #incarcerate and #ControlMasses of people. “There’s nothing pleasant about that. There’s nothing beautiful and pretty. It’s just exclusion: ‘Please take them away from me.’ And because we’re saying we’re doing it to help them, there’s a kind of #systemic #dissonance .”)

Non Bangtan Song of the day .. I have somehow ended down a weird Korean music reality show rabbit hole on Youtube .. the Show Me the Money series is my current mild obsession.

Check out Mudd the Student with AKMU (yes the guy from Balming Tiger).

No new #music, but one that never fails to touch my #soul. We're heading to #Bulgaria 🇧🇬
This is a stunning #live #performance of Malka Moma (little girl) by Neli Andreeva and the Filip Koutev #choir. #Bulgarian #choral #tradition, originally performed by women only, is a study in #polyphony with a strong carrying #vocal style. #Ornamentation, #harmony and #dissonance weave together into a wondrous whole for which I have far too few superlatives. And… Neli's #voice… just 😍

Towards the end of the Jewish morning prayer service (Shacharis) we recite a chapter from Psalms corresponding to the day of the week. This was, according to tradition, sung in The Temple in Jerusalem by the Levites, as accompaniment to the Temple Rituals being carried out by the Cohanim (priests). Each day had its own song.

Were it not for reciting the Psalm for Tuesday today, I fear I would have no idea what day it is today.

Three-day weekends just mess with my head, ya know?

Looks for #music from #Georgia 🇬🇪: Nope Ray Charles is definitely not!
This is Chakrulo by Tsinandali. The piece, dramatising the preparation for a battle, is a great example of #Georgian #polyphonic #singing. It has pre-Byzantium and pre-Christian roots, and most commonly involves 2 voices interweaving, creating points of #harmony and #dissonance over a #choral drone. It, plus much of Georgian #culture, have been successfully revived after centuries of suppression.
