marguerite duras called her a queen & said that she ‘freed france from all her limitations & gave her an international presence’. simone loved with passion & loyalty, from both a personal & a universal perspective.
you know she was cool, too: she was the inspiration for nina simone’s showbiz sobriquet & none other than jane fonda credits her for introducing her to the world of political activism.

'diversity is beautiful!'
#art #history: i wasn't about to let the day sneak away without a sketch of the stupendous human being, simone signoret (born #otd in 1921).
she wasn’t afraid of risking her career to stay true to her left-wing activism, human rights & social justice. she & her husband, yves montand, often showed solidarity with activists & striking workers by turning up at demos to support them.

Remembering #SimoneSignoret (1921-85), the Oscar / Emmy / BAFTA / Cesar Award-winning French film, television and stage actress, born Simone Henriette Charlotte Kaminker in Wiesbaden #OnThisDay. Widely acclaimed for, among others, Jack Clayton's #RoomAtTheTop (1958), but also unforgettable as the scheming teacher in Clouzot's #LesDiaboliques (1955) and the duplicitous "psychic" in Curtis Harrington's #Games (1967).
