A Porsche 911 with backstage memories of Steve McQueen and Le Mans
The film "Le Mans" hit the cinemas 50 years ago, making Steve McQueen world-famous and the Porsche 917 an icon. The King of Cool’s on and off-screen lover was Elga Andersen - and her farewell gift following the end of the shoot was this elegant brown Porsche 911T from Switzerland.

Stumbled across my notes from 1 Nov. 2021 where Steve McQueen interviewed Tarana Burke after her book "Unbound" came out. Nesrine Malik hosted this Guardian Live event.

"Your love is blinding", said McQueen to Burke.

"Black people deserve beautiful sentences." Burke's reply to McQueen's comment on her beautiful writing.

"She corrected my feelings." "The audacity to correct others' feelings." Comments from Burke about a part of her book that touched McQueen.

"How can white people do better (than asking that question) is a kind of appropriation instead of caring about black pain." Comment from Burke during the interview.

Burke quoted someone whose name I didn't catch (Miriam or Murian X?): "Hope is a muscle".

This interview was SO BEAUTIFUL!

PS:
#TaranaBurke started the #MeToo movement.)

#SteveMcQueen made the "Small Axe" mini-series on London's West Indian community between 1969-1982. Gorgeous & powerful series. imdb.com/title/tt3464896/

If you're searching for people who walk the talk when it comes to their values, look at director Steve McQueen. The Academy Award-winning British filmmaker behind "12 Years a Slave" and "Shame" has announced he will no longer attend the opening night screening of his new film, "Blitz," at Camerimage Film Festival in Poland over comments festival director Marek Zydowicz made about women cinematographers. “Although he has issued an apology, I cannot get past what I consider deeply offensive words. I have enormous respect for cinematographers of all genders including women, and believe we have to do and demand better to make room for everyone at the table,” McQueen told @Variety. Zydowicz appeared to suggest in a column published in Cinematography World magazine that greater representation of women in Camerimage's selection could lead to the inclusion of "mediocre film productions." Here's more.

Variety · Steve McQueen Skips Camerimage Over Fest Director's Op-Ed About WomenBy Ellise Shafer
