This was a big year for me for #TTRPG, just started playing and running a *lot* more new things, after spending years just playing/running #DnD5e.
Systems I ran for the first time this year:
#Stargate RPG
#Genesys
#Mothership
#SavageWorlds
#Vaesen
#DeltaGreen (never played)
#StarTrekAdventures (only played afterwards)
#CypherSystem
As I've said before, I finally bit the bullet and starting running games I'd never played or only played once or twice, and it worked pretty well!
2024 might not be as adventurous, since once I've found things I like, esp. #Vaesen, I tend to stick with them, but I've still got a couple more games I want to try:
#CohorsCthulhu
Maybe #AchtungCthulhu too
#CandelaObscura
#NinefoxGambit
Oh, and #Daggerheart when it comes out
All of these, I would be running without ever playing them, since I haven't found anyone else running them.
So, the adventure continues!
I'll be leaving #Mothership next year.
It's a great little system, I had a lot of fun with one-shots in 2023.
But…
1. I'm even in a Mothership campaign, and the rules are too bare-bones to support it, though it tries. You're supposed to avoid rolling! So it often feels like you're not playing an RPG at all.
2. I'm less interested in "jobs”-based RPGs, more in “mission"-based RPGs. It's a different mindset. More solving the mystery and helping people, less stealing shit (#AndrewsTTRPGRules).
@apontious I feel the same. Switching from one-shots to campaigns has been hard for my tables too. I’m now angling for smaller length campaigns, with potential “sequels.”
Solve (vs save or survive) feels like the only way campaigns can work. Reveal the mystery, because your characters will probably die.
