West Yorkshire people, which of these two hex layouts (of wards) would you prefer? Option 1 where each local authority is separate or Option 2 where they are joined into a combined West Yorkshire? Option 2 requires (to me) a less nice arrangement within each local authority.

When drawing #HexMaps for a #TTRPG, do you draw them by hand or use hexmapping software?

Here are two examples of what I mean; I'm drawing my world Uldorion both by hand (on a tablet), and using the hexmapping software called Worldgrapher. Both have their advantages. I prefer the look of the hand drawn one (why else would I make it?), but the Worldographer one has advantages such as being able to zoom in and create subhexes, mark locations and extensive notes, etc. Which do you prefer?

My index of UK geography hex maps now includes boundaries (if they are in the original HexJSON) in the SVG and GeoJSON outputs. For example, here's the current UK constituencies as an SVG hex map
hexmap.uk/layouts/files/uk-con

I've added some basic default styling for the hexes and boundary lines. My hope is that it is pretty easy to re-use and people can fairly easily remove boundaries if they don't want them.

I made this map with the Cartographers edition of Game Stamps, combining the Basic Set with the more recent Campaign Expansion.

I used a stencil to create the hexes, blending colors like Mermaid Lagoon and Fossilized Amber. I love stenciling the hexes as a first step, creating the broad outline of a map and then stamping more detailed terrain later.

So I was just thinking. are a thing and a lot of them are 1” which I think is a common measure for which made me wonder… has anyone ever sewn a hex map or used a quilt for one?

(Probably not or at least almost no one but it could work…)

So...
✅ Converted my campaign hex-generation spreadsheet to table-driven format

✅ Created new encounter tables for terrains that current games are running in

✅ Set up local server to run the hex-describe server/software

✅ Converted my table dev environment to use my local setup

🏃‍♂️Working on my "TODO" items

... and still doing Dungeon23 as well! 4th level is almost fully drawn.

It's been two weeks and almost 17k of lines added to a text file, but I finally am at a point where my Etinerra campaign specific hex-describe file is functional enough to be useful.

Lots of little bits on my TODO list, but I can use this as it is now and be way quicker about game-prep for newly-trodden lands.

Between a diversion into Medieval Demographics tables, and flattening the AD&D treasure/npc party/monster content...

So worth it
